People of ideas

This also opened me out to some interesting philosophers, but I went on to read the ones I gravitated towards in full, Marx, Marcuse, Wittgenstein, Heidegger (with serious caveats). So it has gotta go. And I’m not too keen on the ‘men’ of ideas bit either.

Intros

I had a bunch of these which I used to lend to students. I don’t know anyone who thinks they’re a bad idea. Gotta go though, they have done their work, had their time.

Toop

I liked Ocean of Sound but found this irritating and pretentious. Toop is a good writer, but the hit I got from him was Ocean of Sound and the CD that came with it, which opened me out to all kinds of things. And that came from Halifax library, and all libraries are now under threat. Time to think on, activate the nous, the ingenium, the wit.

More dead sci-fi

This has also gone, after doing its work. Dr Who is an important metaphorical figure if you like, one of the gods in my pantheon. After all, for Marx Time and Space are key to capitalism.

I enjoyed these, and this kind of thing, greatly when I was young. They really opened me out imaginatively, but I can no longer cling to every scrap of evidence of that opening.

Cockney Keats

I did Keats at A Level, and hoovered up some good stuff on him after, particularly at Goldsmiths library sales. Now there is no space for it, either in my head or on the wall.

Some conspiracy theory-level rubbish, straight to the chazzer. Although the Shankill and Francis Wheen books were good.

Dead Roses

Selling these ended with a right mess on Ebay, as did the sale of Court of the Crimson King, see below, Ebay is dead to me, I’d rather give it away. But for disaccumulation purposes, Made of Stone, Elephant Stone and She Bangs the Drums went, in mint condition. After all, what on earth were the Stone Roses going on about?
